It was a long road trip, that took us from eastern Washington State, through Oregon, into northern California, down Highway 101 to San Francisco, and then all the way back again. We slept in the same place only twice, saw breathtaking natural beauty, crossed rivers and mountain passes, visited fascinating towns and cities (and one aquarium, because one of the problems with having a little mermaid who can read is that she'll immediately spot the one sign among thousands that reads "San Francisco Aquarium").
I took hundreds of photos of all the sights, but what my lens couldn't capture is the kindness of all the people we met - who hosted us, fed us, entertained our kids (and taught them to drive and operate their tractor, and made floral straw hats with our girl ...). People, friends now, who opened their houses to us, a somewhat cumbersome traveling family of five. We feel deeply grateful for the warm hospitality we've received on the road, which made our trip truly memorable for us all.
