It was the buzzing of the bees yesterday that alerted me that the time had finally come to harvest the lavender - just in time before leaving on a long trip. I heard the insistent humming from my bedroom while I was packing, and when I looked out the open windows, I saw the busy insects clouding around the purple flowers in full bloom. We harvested it in the evening, trimming and tying it in big bunches on the living room floor, filling the house with the intense fragrance. On inspiration, I chose the yarn I'd bring to during the trip: lavender mohair. I packed it away, and I zipped up our last bag.
