(Little Splashes rain jacket with the belt loops I added in action: I'd say they were a much needed adjustment!)
Twice a year Tom with one, or two or all three kids, hikes up the hill following the old pipe that connects our water for the garden to the collection tank in the woods. In the spring, he'll take pliers, and in the autumn, he'll also carry the sickle to cut down the brambles along the way. When he gets to the tank, he reaches for a hidden valve, turns on (or off) the water, and tests the old irrigation system.
This year for the first time I went along, and now I too am initiated in the secrets of hydraulics in an ancient village (... too bad I always carry a camera with me, and can't do any actual hydraulic work!)
