I spent the rest of the day in shock and disbelief yesterday, after reading the tragic news about Kathreen Ricketson of Whip Up and Action Pack. Her encouragement in these years of blogging and sharing about things I make has been very important to me, and I felt I'd suddenly lost a friend. It's strange how people whom we've never met, or spoken with, can become friends over the Internet through email exchanges and comments that can be as important and real as the relationship we have with neighbors or friends nearby. This is what Kathreen did for me, and for all the lovers of crafting in its most ample sense: she created a worldwide crafting community that thanks to the Internet transcended and surpassed our specific geographic locations, and made us all online neighbors and friends. She did it with passion and drive, igniting fruitful connections and spreading a love of crafting and hands-on creativity. We, her friends and community that she created online, will miss her.
