When I sensed how these opposites would all be in complete harmony on that snowy day, I knew it was time to grind up the chili peppers that had been drying since the end of summer:
I saw white & red
I tasted cold & heat
I smelled freshness & spiciness
I heard the crunching of the snow under my feet & the grinding of the mortar in my hands.
And then, on that snowy day, I held the jar full of chili powder - a handmade chili shaker, spicy with summer sunshine
now ready for use.
