This weekend we walked a stretch of the Via Iulia Augusta, the ancient Roman road that linked our region to Rome. Along the way we crossed the remains of Roman bridges, stepping on paving stones worn by many centuries of feet and grooved by centuries of cart wheels.
As we were heading back, my big boy commented, "They built things to last back then."
