It took me almost a year to get over my disappointment, and go back to my French sewing book (Astrid Le Provost's Intemporels pour enfants) - the first pattern I tried contained an error, which I only figured out when it was too late, and I'd already cut a beautiful piece of linen according to the erroneous pattern (more about this in another post). However, the chemise de nuit from the same book is an effortless and wonderful pattern, for a long nightdress with enough French volant at the bottom to really appeal to my little girl: she's so pleased with it, and I'm happy to have fallen in love with my French sewing book all over again.
In the process of making the nightdress, I finally mastered the art of making my own bias, which always gave me trouble in the past.
See how happy she is in her chemise de nuit? She couldn't stop smiling and laughing. The only thing that's amiss here is those bare feet, sticking out from under the volant.
With our cold terracotta floors, those bare feet in winter didn't make her mamma too happy!
Tomorrow I'll show you how we remedied this issue, French style.
