I woke up on New Year's Day feeling happy and full of energy. Somehow, the desire I'd shared in my A Year in Photos ~ by hand to do more sewing this year was fresh in my mind, and - why not? - now seemed to be the perfect time to start: on a peaceful morning on January 1st, a hot espresso in hand. And in one day, working on and off, I copied out a pattern and cut the fabric for it, some floral velveteen I'd found in a street market many months before. The next day I sewed the yoke together. And the third day I finished the garment, a little blouse for Rebecca, sewing on the last button when she already had it on!
And off we went to see some friends. (Digression: I'm totally in love with that white fabric sofa, and decided that I want a white sofa too!)
I think this could well be the year in which I sew all of Rebecca's clothes. Or the year in which I finally use the stash of fabrics I've been collecting. Or, more simply, the year in which I actually complete some of my sewing projects, beginning to end, instead of leaving unfinished bits and pieces sitting around the house for months on end. Whichever it turns out to be, I feel this is going to be a good year for sewing. It started well, anyway: three days into January, a new blouse.
