In Florence - where the boys and I went for these last two days - my sister and I went to pick up four bouquets - gifts for the soprano, mezzo-soprano, first violinist, and the conductor.
Beautiful mixed bouquets of Lisianthius flowers,Limonium, and oak leaves, in the different hues of white, purple and green.
That night, my sister and her choir and the orchestra played and sang in Piazza della Signoria, the center of town.
And the piazza resonated with the powerful music of Verdi's Messa da Requiem, to commemorate the victims of the mafia attack which took place in Florence seventeen years ago. (If you don't know the music, here is a sampling.)
Nicholas, Jeremy and I were among the many in the crowd: many, many people who stayed and participated until 1am, moved by the dramatic music, setting and memories.
