This weekend we were hit by a snowstorm and high winds, which brought down power and telephone lines, and caused snow to fall and accumulate sideways.
After 12 hours with no power, generators were brought up to our village; now we had power on and off, but were beginning to feel a little sorry for ourselves. In such cases, when we're in the dark as happens every winter, making a special treat or two works wonders. A post by Suzy of Hip Mountain Mama about snow candy came to mind, and although I didn't have Internet, and I couldn't remember the ingredients, I sensed this was what we needed.
A little caramel laced over snow, instantly cooled and ready to be savored, put us in the right mood finally to look out the window and admire the sideway snow, laced sideways over our rose bushes in the pale evening light.
