This three year old girl, who had very clear ideas about precisely where the 3 candles should go on her birthday cake, was totally surprised by the appearance of presents. Fortunately, she has two brothers who filled her in on the many perks of birthdays besides the cake, and by the end of the day she was so excited by her new presents that it was almost impossible to persuade her to set aside her treasures and go to bed.
A present came in the mail, an embroidered bag made especially for her by Magda, a very dear blog-friend of mine, and the first to ever leave a comment here on FuoriBorgo (Magda has a shop here where her Sashiko embroidery and batik work can be found).
And then she got a wooden doll house. Actually it's an old present, "renewed" and given a new reason for being by Rebecca's birthday. In fact, Tom and I bought it for the boys several years ago, and while they found it a perfect trampoline and stepladder, they never actually used it as a doll house.
And so the wooden doll house sat in box in the basement for years, waiting for ... Rebecca! It came unfurnished, apart from a brick of modeling clay which we'll use to make all kinds of furnishings. Rebecca was overjoyed to see that, mistaking it for a great big chocolate bar sitting in her doll house. Just before she fell asleep, I think I finally managed to explain that the clay was for home decorations, not eating!
