Nicholas' early childhood was full of maps, atlases, and globes. He'd love to sit and study them, and copy and draw maps. We now have a well-used National Geographic wall map, a globe with a missing pedestal, and Nicholas' absolutely favorite Atlas, The Picture Atlas of the World, which is actually the second such picture atlas he owns, as the first one was an older second-hand version still showing "USSR", and which he pleaded to have updated when he was six years old.
Our maps, atlases and globes are always out and available, and every time Daddy goes away to do field work, we go and check them out together. This weekend we studied them extensively, as Tom showed them the route for the extended trip he's taking, and explained what he'd be doing. In the process, we decided that we are ready for a proper atlas! Any suggestions?
