There are many, many things I miss about life in the city.
One of the things I miss most is public transportation. Because here in our isolated rural village we are totally car-dependent (and bicycles as a means of transportation are largely out of the question, given that the village happens to be perched atop a steep cliff). But when we are in the city, we revel in public transportation of every description. Subways, street cars, buses: a few stops down the line and you're right in the heart of the city, or clear across town, or anywhere else you want to be!
And the bookstores? How I miss those bookstores (especially the ones with rocking horses - even plastic ones!)!
But what I miss most is my mom's kitchen: the oven on, a pasta sauce bubbling away in a pan on the stove, a pot of coffee always ready, and the pram for the family's newest arrival standing right there in the middle of all the action. And I miss the table in her kitchen, where many generations have always gathered together, to sit and talk.
