Rebecca and I went to a weaving class the other day. We actually didn't intend to enroll in a weaving class at all, but it came with an embroidery class that I was really interested in. It was organized by the city council of the nearest town, through an institution called "University for all Ages", so we both felt welcome. We lowered the average age of the participants by quite a lot.
We stayed for a good hour and half in which Rebecca was at first a little shy, and I had my chance to get the camera out for a couple of shots, and to familiarize myself with weaving tools.
After a short while, though, Rebecca got really interested in the activity, and went to help the nice old lady students unwind their skeins, offering to help them cut the yarn with scissors. They really were a nice group, who had all had children and grandchildren, and they played right along. At that point, though, I had to put away the camera in order to contain Rebecca's helping, but I was still able to tie the warp threads in place on my little loom, using the neon pink and moss green acrylic yarn I was given. Later on one of the ladies offered Rebecca a glass of fizzy water, and a good twenty minutes followed in which she was busy scratching her tongue, trying to get that nasty sensation out of her mouth. And I took the opportunity to have my first taste of weaving!
(Oh, no ... not my own weaving, but that of the sweet lady sitting next to me. She worked faster than I: she had Rebecca to help her!)
And the embroidery class? We couldn't make it - Rebecca was sick that day...
